This is some high quality crack-shipping lol and I am here for it, seriously stupendous job with the animation!

I think dabi gave his wings in exchange for becoming human and changing his looks so he wouldn’t be found by other angels and when hawks laid dying he was given a choice to stay and risk hawks dying or becoming an Angel again and hawks assured survival. When it says I’ll give my life for you I interpret that as he’ll give up his human life and become an Angel again, since at the end it shows him wrapping his arms around him in his original appearance, except for his hair being black, but with the clothes he wore as a human with no wings. He couldn’t get his wings back but he’s hawks guardian but hawks can no longer see nor feel him. The feather left behind is proof that he’s looking out for him and that he’ll always be there ‘in spirit.’

How I gathered the story went from how the animatic goes and the song: Touya was an angel who fell in love with Hawks, which is a BIG NO NO for the angels due to... reasons. Well, Hawks reacted badly to suddenly being kissed (I mean, if a winged dude suddenly kissed me I’d be concerned too so... accurate reaction?) and so Touya went away and cried had general no fun times. Meanwhile, Hawks was sent to a church by Shigaraki for... reasons that aren’t really explained? Anyways, Touya, now as Dabi, sees Hawks there and it’s love at first sight for Hawks. They have smexy times and start courting each other. Until Shoto shows up, rightfully pissy about this HUMAN of ALL foul creatures, making his big brother fall from being an Angel. So he attacks Hawks and Dabi is given an option. Return to being an angel (at least partially) and save Hawks’ life, or stay and have him potentially die? He picks the first option, and so Hawks is sad, keeps the feather as a reminder.
